IASIA Welcomes New Members to The Board of Management

The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is excited to announce new appointments to its Board of Management. Prof. Liezel Lues has been appointed as the Vice-President for the Africa Region, while Dr. Mohammad Saleh Ibrahim Albakhiti and Prof. Nura Mohamed joined the IASIA Board of Management, representing the Middle East and Africa regions respectively. These appointments reflect the Institute's commitment to enhancing its governance with exceptional leadership and expertise.

Prof. Liezel Lues is a renowned scholar in Public Administration and Management at the University of the Free State, South Africa. Her career spans notable roles in Human Resource Development with the Free State Office of the Premier and the National Department of Water Affairs. Since 2006, she has been a prominent figure at the University of the Free State, serving as Programme Director and Head of Department. Prof. Lues has held leadership positions as Deputy and Chairperson of the Association of Southern African Departments of Public Administration and Management (ASSADPAM). She also contributes to the Board of Management of IASIA and the Steering Committee of the International Commission on the Accreditation of Public Administration and Training Programs (ICAPA-SC). Her extensive publication record and editorial board memberships, combined with her NRF rating and multiple senior researcher faculty awards, underscore her significant impact in the field. Prof. Lues teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses focusing on Human Resource Management, Public Sector Management, and Leadership.

Prof. Nura Mohamed, Director General of the Kenya School of Government, is an esteemed expert in public sector leadership and transformation with over 23 years of experience. His extensive background includes public sector reforms, performance management, finance, audit, and planning. As Director of Finance and Administration (Deputy Vice-Chancellor-Finance and Administration) at Zanzibar University, Prof. Mohamed successfully led substantial transformation efforts. He is a respected consultant, researcher, and adviser in public policy and organizational change. His research interests cover Public Finance, Public Sector Reforms, Performance Management, Training, and Knowledge Management. Prof. Mohamed also teaches Public Sector Finance, Transformational Leadership, Governance, and Management. He has been honored with the Elder of the Burning (EBS) award by His Excellency the President.


Dr. Mohammad Saleh Ibrahim Albakhiti is the Deputy Director General for Consultations and Studies at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) and a member of the National Center for Archives and Records at the Royal Court. He has held significant positions, including Chairman of the IPA Scientific Council and roles on various committees related to nationalization and excellence. From 2005 to 2019, he served as the Director General of the IPA Branch in the Eastern Region, managing research, consultation, and training activities. He holds a PhD in Management Studies from Brunel University London, focusing on governance and human capital, and a Master’s degree from Cleveland State University. Albakhiti is certified in Key Performance Indicators and Professional Management. His research includes topics such as remote work and governance, and he has been honored with a doctoral-level excellence award from the Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the UK. He is also a frequent presenter at international conferences and has extensive training in Structural Equation Modeling and Research Management.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Lues, Prof. Mohamed, and Dr. Albakhiti, and eagerly anticipate their valuable contributions to the IASIA/IIAS.

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to our vibrant community, further strengthening our commitment to advancing public administration education and practice worldwide.

On August 23, 2024, the ICAPA Steering Committee convened remotely to discuss nominations for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair of the Accreditation Committee, as well as for membership on the committee. 

The committee reviewed a total of 21 nominations, which included candidates for the Chair and Vice Chair.  After thorough consideration of the vetting materials and deliberations, the following unanimous nominations were decided:
