Vacancy Announcement: Editor-in-Chief for the International Review of Administrative Sciences (IRAS)

The International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) is seeking a visionary Editor-in-Chief to succeed Andrew Massey, who has been at the helm since 2013.

About IRAS/RISA: The International Review of Administrative Sciences/Revue internationale des sciences administratives (IRAS/RISA) is a top journal in the field of comparative public administration and management, published by Sage. With a rich history, it is the oldest journal in the field of comparative and international administration. IRAS/RISA offers unique benefits for authors, accepting submissions in both English and French, and publishing accepted papers in both languages as well as in Chinese editions. Translations into other languages are also arranged by the journal, relieving authors of the logistical burden.

The Journal's Impact: With a global circulation both in hard copy and electronically, IRAS has achieved significant recognition and impact. In 2022, electronic downloads of articles exceeded 250,000. The journal has consistently improved its JCR rank and impact score each year since 2005. In 2021, it achieved an impressive impact factor of 2.397 and a rank of 18 out of 47 in Public Administration journals.

Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief:The successful candidate will be tasked with steering the journal towards new heights of excellence. The key responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and ensuring the Journal's continued high-quality content and appeal to readers and subscribers.
  • Actively promoting inclusivity by attracting diverse and under-represented voices among the submissions.
  • Overseeing the rigorous refereeing process to maintain the journal's reputation for scholarly excellence.
  • Effective liaison with authors to facilitate a smooth publishing experience.
  • Collaborating with the Editorial Board and taking the lead in recruiting new members to enrich the expertise.
  • Maintaining regular communication with SAGE Publications to foster a strong working relationship.
  • Efficiently managing ScholarOne Manuscript for submission and refereeing processes, and personnel associated to editorial work and reviews.

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  2. A concise, well-reasoned statement (not exceeding 2000 words) outlining their vision for the future development of the journal.

Application Deadline:Applications must be submitted no later than 10 September 2023.

Selection Process:Short-listed candidates will be invited for interviews in September 2023. During the interview, candidates will be requested to present their vision and plan for the future development of the journal.

Editorial Transition:The successful candidate is expected to assume the position of Editor-in-Chief starting from January 2024. A two-month handover period will be facilitated, during which the retiring Editor, Andrew Massey, will be available for consultation and guidance.

IIAS will provide administrative support for the editorial work through a journal manager.

Additional funds could be made available for participation in events that promote IRAS.

The International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA) is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to our vibrant community, further strengthening our commitment to advancing public administration education and practice worldwide.

On August 23, 2024, the ICAPA Steering Committee convened remotely to discuss nominations for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair of the Accreditation Committee, as well as for membership on the committee. 

The committee reviewed a total of 21 nominations, which included candidates for the Chair and Vice Chair.  After thorough consideration of the vetting materials and deliberations, the following unanimous nominations were decided:
